BIO

Stephanie Washburn lives in Ojai, CA. She works in a range of media including drawing, photography and video. Her work explores materiality, the physical world and representations of nature. Recent projects focus on the landscape genre through the conceptual lens of climate crisis and the urgent task of redefining our relationship to the environment. Recent exhibition highlights include a project at the Taft Botanical Gardens and Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Her work has also been included in shows at Praz Delavallade, ACME Gallery, Mark Moore Gallery, Claremont University, MCA Santa Barbara, UC Riverside’s Sweeney Gallery and the Fellows of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. It is in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, University of California at Riverside and Santa Barbara, and the Agnes Gund and Frederick Weisman Foundations. Reviews include The Los Angeles Times, New American Paintings, Art Fag City and Vice. Her photographs have been published in Heliotrope, Harper's Magazine, and The LA Review of Books. Washburn received a BA from Wesleyan University, CT and her MFA from University of California, Santa Barbara, CA as a Regents Special Fellow.
